Q: When ice fishing, how can I tell if the ice is safe enough to walk on?
A:
Be very careful. Constantly check the thickness of the ice as you
head out onto it. Three inches is normally thick enough to walk
on. If you are in a group, spread out. Avoid dark spots on the ice
(this is generally a hole, thin spot, or water on the ice). Do not
run across thinner ice to get across it quickly. Rather, if you
find yourself on thin ice, you want to spread your body weight out
as far as possible so that all the weight is not centralized in
one spot. You can do this by laying across the ice. Be careful!
